A New Generation of Yogis
Aside from the obvious benefits of exercising the physical body, yoga develops many wonderful qualities in children. Qualities such as the ability to focus and become more aware of their thoughts and feelings. Through this increased awareness, changes and growth in new and positive directions can blossom. Yoga also cultivates confidence and self-discipline and strengthens the nervous system which is very beneficial when dealing with special needs children. Research has shown that working with children who have Sensory Integration dysfunction, such as Autism, learning disabilities, ADD & ADHD using yoga therapy has produced amazing results. Children are fresh and creative in their approach to life and yoga encourages their creativity to flow, their fear, anger and sadness to release, their trust in the inner self to shine and their minds and hearts to be in sync.
Creating Conscious Kids
As parents and adults who interact with children, the possibility of what those children can achieve rests on our shoulders. Maintaining a healthy and happy home environment is essential to the success of every child. A child’s potential begins at home with their parents as their first role models, and often their only role models. Children look to us for guidance in learning the proper way to deal with adversity, how to interact with others, how to manage stress and lead a productive fulfilling life. They mirror our techniques and mimic our reactions to certain situations, sometimes with such precision it’s like watching ourselves on camera. I have often heard my daughters repeat my words back to me with such accuracy of tone and content that I could recall with perfect clarity hearing those very same words come from my own mother’s mouth. I cannot emphasize enough our responsibility to encourage, support, uplift and inspire our children, and ALL children with whom we interact. Children are beautiful, incredible, innocent souls who did not ask to be brought into this world but who are here nonetheless and who need to be nurtured and treasured and have their emotional and physical needs provided for in such a way that it maximizes their potential for a bright and beautiful future full of possibilities.
